Centennial Celebration - 3/3/2009

Dr. Samuel (Sam) Einhorn resident at Stonegate celebrated his 100th birthday.

DR. SAMUEL (Sam) Einhorn, a resident of Parker at Stonegate Assisted Living Residence in Highland Park since 1997, celebrated his 100th birthday on February 12 at the facility with a proclamation reading, prayer recitation, and birthday cake.

Einhorn, who was born in 1909, grew up in Newark, the son of Russian-Jewish immigrants. He attended the University of Maryland for both graduate and medical school. When World War II broke out, he joined the army and served for five years as an army physician, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel. He married his wife, Patricia Brach, in 1951 and settled down with his family in Short Hills, where he was an active member of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun. Dr. Samuel worked as an internist in private practice.

When he retired from his practice in 1977, he continued to work in his field as chief of medicine and manager of the outpatient department of the VA Medical Center in East Orange. At the age of 75, he retired fully, moving to West Palm Beach, FL. With a passion for horseback riding, he found a local stable where he rode horses several times a week. He continued to ride until the age of 94.

At the celebration, Carol Davey, Parker at Stonegate admissions and community relations coordinator, read the proclamation, which Roberto Muñiz, Francis E. Parker Memorial Home, Inc., president and CEO, presented.

The Einhorns have three children and four grandchildren. Patricia will be 89 on March 17.

“I have lived a long life and enjoyed every bit of it,” Sam Einhorn said. “I am ready for the next adventure anytime and don’t feel that I have missed out on anything.”
