The Francis E. Parker Memorial Home was founded in 1907 by
Henrietta Parker in memory of her late husband,
Francis E. Parker. Driven by a lifetime of humanitarian pursuits, Mr. Parker believed that people suffering from chronic illness should be given the opportunity to live in a home-like environment with excellent and very affordable nursing care. This vision became a reality when Mrs. Parker made the decision to build a long-term nursing home on part of the land that was shared by her very own home. Today, it is known as
Parker at Landing Lane.
During the 1940s,
General Robert Wood Johnson, son of the founder of Johnson & Johnson, came to the aide of
Parker, which was facing severe financial hardship. Over the next two decades, General Johnson remained very involved with Parker through his generous gifts, which in later years led to our first major expansion and modernization.

In 1954, the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services designated Parker as a not-for-profit nursing home – one of several significant milestones that we would achieve. In 1983, we opened our second skilled nursing home,
Parker at River Road. This was made possible by continuing gifts from General Johnson.
In 1998, we were honored by becoming one of only four registered Eden Alternative™ homes in New Jersey. The Eden Alternative is an ongoing commitment we make to our residents to provide an environment that embraces and nurtures aging as a phase of continuous growth in life and not as a decline.
Since 2000, we have celebrated the openings of our assisted living residence
Parker at Stonegate and our adult day health services at
Parker at The Pavilion. We continue to expand services including Andrew J. Markey Center for Health and Wellness, Child Development Center and Center for Healthy Aging at Parker Stonegate.
Today, we rejoice in the caring, warmth, and joy that Parker
has provided for so many people over its 100-year history. We continue to be guided by the vision of our founders, Francis and Henrietta Parker, and by benefactor General Johnson to provide the highest quality of affordable nursing home care in the comfort of a home-like environment.
