Q: What is a nursing care residence?
A: A nursing care residence (nursing home) is licensed by the state to offer residents personal care as well as skilled nursing care on a 24-hour-a-day basis. Services include nursing care, personal care, room and board, supervision, medication, therapies, and rehabilitation. Suites are often shared, and communal dining is common.
Q: What does the nursing care residence fee include, and what services are billed separately?
A: In the nursing care residences, the fee includes the room; all meals; 24-hour nursing services; linen; maintenance services; and most social, spiritual, and recreational programs. Residents are billed separately for other amenities, including in-room cable TV and telephone services; medical professional services (e.g., physicians, dentists, optometrists); pharmacy items; special care or treatment products; laboratory, radiological, and ambulance services; occupational, physical, and speech therapy; and barber shop and beauty salon services. In the assisted living residence, additional fees may apply depending on the need for assistance with the level of care, that is, the tasks of daily living.
Q: Are Parker employees trained in dementia care?
A: All Parker employees are required to attend dementia-specific training each year. Direct-care providers attend additional programs on dementia and related disorders. All staff members are encouraged to take advantage of the educational opportunities offered by Parker and by other organizations, such as the Alzheimer’s Association. Resident families and sponsors are also welcome to attend the dementia education programs at Parker.
Q: What activities are offered on Evergreen Way?
A: The activities on Evergreen Way are always changing to accommodate the needs, interests, and preferences of the residents. The recreation staff caters to each person by providing activities based on his or her past interests adapted to current abilities. Each resident has the opportunity to attend a variety of social, educational, and leisure time programs based on his or her physical and cognitive preferences and abilities. Residents of Evergreen Way may also choose to attend any suitable programs offered to Parker's other residents.
Q: Are there special fees for Evergreen Way (dementia-specific services?)
A: No. Residents of Evergreen Way pay the same private-room rate as do residents of Parker nursing care residences.
Q: What happens when a resident of Evergreen Way no longer meets the criteria for residing there?
A: The status of each resident of Evergreen Way is reviewed monthly and any changes (positive or negative) are shared with the resident’s family or sponsor. When such changes indicate that the resident is no longer benefiting from the program, we will assist the resident in transferring to an appropriate residence, based on availability. Until transfer, the resident will continue to be cared for by the Evergreen Way staff, in keeping with their changing needs.
